RUN FOR OFFICE
Think you’re ready to run for office? So do we!
One of the missions of ROADwomen is to elect Democrats to office, with a special emphasis on electing pro-choice, Democratic women. To that end, there are several online resources available for women who are interested in running for office. The resources listed below not only encourage and prepare women to run, but also provide financial support to candidates. If you are a women interested in running for office, or know of one who is, please read more below!
Annie's List
Founded in 2003, Annie’s List was named for Dr. Annie Webb Blanton, the first woman elected to statewide office in Texas in her own right. The vision of the organization is to achieve equality for women by changing the face of power in Texas politics. Annie’s List recruits, trains, supports and elects progressive, pro-choice women in Texas.
Emily's List
The mission of Emily’s List aligns with that of ROADwomen: Electing pro-choice Democratic women to office. Emily’s List has launched a national recruitment campaign called Run to Win, which aims to recruit and help pro-choice Democratic women across the country run and win. For more information on the Run to Win campaign, visit the Emily’s List Run to Win Web site.
SHE SHOULD RUN
She Should Run started as a project in 2008 and has evolved to become a movement working to create a culture that inspires women and girls to aspire towards public leadership. She Should Run’s robust Ask a Woman to Run program provides a community that encourages women to run and then connects women with resources, people and organizations who can help start their path towards public service. The She Should Run Incubator is an online program to help more women envision themselves in public leadership, and a way of providing thoughtful guidance and support for women considering a future run.
